Mission

The RCAF Foundation’s mission is to recognize, foster and celebrate the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) through community engagement, education programs and commemorative activities.

Purpose

In 2021 the RCAF Foundation embarked on a 10-year horizon to build an enduring platform to fulfill our perpetual Mission. We will use the 2024 RCAF Centennial as the marquee event to create the ground floor substance for our Mission, the momentum for our ongoing community support, and the leadership to sustain our efforts.

 Governance

A registered charity, separate and distinct from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), our governance structure demands the highest ethical, fiduciary, and conflict of interest standards, led by a Board of Directors.

Brief History of RCAF

The Royal Canadian Air Force was created in 1920, when it was named Canadian Air Force (CAF). In 1924 the CAF was renamed the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) after being granted royal title by King George V. It existed as an independent service until 1968, at which time it was included in the unification of Canada’s armed services, one of three commands of the Canadian Forces. The Royal Canadian Air Force has served bravely in the Second World War, the Korean War, and several United Nations peacekeeping missions and with NATO operations and maintained a presence in Europe for much of the second half of the 20th century and today.
